After months of strategic planning, I’m excited to announce Hospice Hawaii’s evolution to Navian Hawaii! What began as a venture to provide quality end-of-life care for the people of Hawaii has grown considerably over the past 40 years, and it’s only fitting that we mark our milestone 40th anniversary with a new name for our organization and an expanded purpose to provide care for every life journey.

The inspiration behind Navian Hawaii was to merge “Navigator” and “Guardian,” words that embody two very important roles people play in the lives of their loved ones, into one cohesive whole. Navian is who we see ourselves—an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals working hard to navigate our patients’ journeys and guard their best interests.

Part of our transition to Navian Hawaii is the introduction of our new Integrated Care program, designed to offer a Social Worker and Nurse Practitioner to provide support along with advance care planning, goals-of-care discussions and disease process education. Not to be confused with our existing Hospice Care program, Integrated Care is our newest venture to broaden our reach. While in our Integrated Care program, we allow patients to seek curative treatments and help to alleviate the pain and challenges they face when living with a serious condition.

Despite these changing times for our organization, we are nonetheless grounded in our mission to bring hope, reduce fears and impact lives. As we grow and evolve into Hawaii’s premier hospice and integrated care provider, we continue to be deeply invested in our goal to provide quality end-of-life care to everyone in the community—regardless of their ability to pay.

Finally, I want to thank all of our friends and supporters for your unwavering loyalty to what we’re now proud to call Navian Hawaii. As we look to the future, we’re excited to build upon our past successes and steer our ship toward calmer seas and clearer skies ahead.
