HONOLULU (October 3, 2020) – Navian Hawaii, formerly Hospice Hawaii, will honor its partners, patients and community of care with its virtual Na Hoa Malama. The annual benefit fundraiser will stream live on Navian Hawaii’s Facebook page on Saturday, November 7 at 6 p.m.

“We’re pleased to be able to continue to honor the tradition of Na Hoa Malama with an uplifting and inspiring evening that our supporters can enjoy from the comfort of their own homes,” said Navian Hawaii President & CEO Tori Abe Carapelho. “This year’s fundraiser will showcase stories of hope as we honor memories of our loved ones and recognize the heroic efforts of individuals and organizations in our community.”

This year’s Na Hoa Malama will cap Navian Hawaii’s 40th anniversary with a Best of the Best Showcase highlighting past patients who were previously inducted into the organization’s Hall of Heroes. The Hall of Heroes pays tribute to the memories of past patients from all walks of life who have left tremendous legacies and touched the lives of so many. The heartwarming and inspiring stories that will be revisited include:

  • James “Jimmy” Borges, Hawaii’s legendary jazz vocalist who never let his terminal lung and liver cancer diagnosis slow him down
  • Diana “Mele” Carroll, a former State House Representative known for her desire to serve others
  • Kala Peter, a pediatric patient who remained strong while battling Osteosarcoma and whose story inspired the Honolulu Fire Department to come together in his honor

In addition, Navian Hawaii will recognize its 2020 Community Award winners:

  • Community Supporter of the Year: Malama Hawaii Hospitals
  • Healthcare Organization of the Year: CareSift
  • Healthcare Professional of the Year: Craig Nakatsuka
  • Philanthropist of the Year: Roger Brault

The virtual Na Hoa Malama will rebroadcast on KFVE Channel 6/1006 on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from Na Hoa Malama will benefit Navian Hawaii’s hospice and integrated care programs and services. For more information or to become a sponsor, call (808) 791-8075 or email nahoa@navianhawaii.org.
