As part of our comprehensive care philosophy, Navian Hospice Hawaii offers a wide range of complementary therapies to aid in our patients’ comfort and healing process. These options are used to help alleviate pain and suffering and promote a sense of wellbeing, and are provided as a supplement, to the patient’s regular treatment as prescribed by their doctor.

Navian Hospice Hawaii complementary therapy handcasting

Handcasting

Memory making is an important part of life’s journey. We offer patients the opportunity to create hand castings, an intricately detailed sculpture created from molds of the patient and a loved one’s hands. Hand casting is a personal way of capturing the love between two people, creating a beautiful keepsake families will treasure for a lifetime.

Navian Hospice Hawaii complementary pet therapy

Pet Therapy*

Ease stress and pain with one of Navian Hospice Hawaii’s own therapy pets, trained to provide a calm, loving and anxiety-free experience in the setting of your choice. Pet therapy can reduce depression and fatigue, improve memory, or simply bring joy and laughter to patients and their loved ones.

Aromatherapy*

Relied on for centuries as a method to improve mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, essential oils can be used in a variety of ways: added to baths, massaged into the skin, directly inhaled or even diffused to give fragrance to a room. Aromatherapy can provide a myriad of benefits, such as easing tension, instilling calm, increasing breathing and circulation, and promoting a sense of peace.

Navian Hospice Hawaii complementary art therapy

Art Enrichment

Art enrichment uses drawing, painting, and other forms of visual art to encourage self-expression, reduce stress, and improve the patient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. As it is particularly helpful in aiding a child’s understanding and coping of death and bereavement, this service is also available to the children and grandchildren of our patients.

Navian Hospice Hawaii complementary music therapy

Music Enrichment

Music Enrichment uses our universal connection with music to establish a pathway to healing. Patients may choose to listen to, sing, play or even write music. They can use music to promote healing, encourage social interaction, improve quality of life, and allow expression of emotions or thoughts that are otherwise challenging to acknowledge.

Navian Hospice Hawaii complementary therapy reiki

Healing Touch & Reiki

Healing touch is a hands-on, non-invasive, energy-based technique that focuses on restoring the patient’s energy system to promote self-healing. Healers use the gift of touch to clear, energize and balance the patient’s energy fields, thereby improving physical, spiritual, mental and emotional health.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing through an alternative hands-on approach, and restoring the patient’s life force energy.

Massage Therapy

Massage has been shown to have the ability to improve physical and emotional states after just one session. Therapeutic massage is provided to patients as a tool for pain relief and symptom management, and used to decrease stress and anxiety, heighten a sense of peacefulness and restore emotional balance. Navian Hospice Hawaii’s massage therapy is catered towards each patient’s own unique needs based on diagnosis and condition.
